The Command’s spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the development in a statement, noting that an investigation into the incident has already commenced.

Ukandu explained that immediately after the matter was reported, the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State, CP Hope Urunwa Okafor, directed that the officers involved be moved to the Command Headquarters for further action.

He added that the Commissioner also instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the allegations.

According to the police spokesperson, the officers have since been placed in detention pending the outcome of the investigation and will face appropriate disciplinary measures if found culpable.

“The officers have been detained and will undergo the necessary disciplinary procedures in line with the findings of the investigation,” Ukandu said.

He expressed sympathy for the victim, who is currently receiving medical treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, and assured members of the public that the investigation would be handled impartially, transparently and professionally.
