Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued a kidnapped woman and disrupted a planned ransom exchange in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The operation followed credible intelligence on plans to pay ransom for the woman, who was abducted from her farm last month.
The acting spokesperson for the troops, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday.
Osoba said the troops swiftly mobilised to the location after receiving information about the planned ransom payment, forcing the terrorists to engage them as they approached.
According to him, the troops’ superior firepower forced the criminals to retreat, leaving the kidnapped woman behind.
“The engagement forced the criminals to retreat in disarray, abandoning the hostage, who was subsequently secured by our troops,” he said.
The victim was reportedly found unharmed and was subsequently transported safely to reunite with her family in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.
Osoba said the troops conducted a thorough search of the terrorists’ withdrawal route after the rescue to ensure that the area was secure before returning to base.
In a separate operation, the troops also carried out clearance operations and dominance patrols across parts of Ngaski Local Government Area.
He said the patrols were completed without incident as part of ongoing efforts to restrict the movement of terrorists and other criminal elements in the area.
The military spokesman assured residents that Operation FANSAN YAMMA would continue to intensify operations against terrorists and bandits operating in Kebbi State and other parts of the country.
“We will keep the fire on everywhere the terrorists are. We will dismantle them to secure Kebbi State and Nigeria,” Osoba said.
He urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could help prevent attacks and disrupt criminal activities.
“We urge members of the public to continue sharing credible information with security agencies. Such intelligence is critical to thwarting the activities of criminal elements and securing our communities,” he added.
