Enugu Govt Denies Sale of ESBS, Water Corporation, Stadium, Lagos Liaison Office Assets

The Enugu State Government has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that it is selling assets belonging to the Enugu State Broadcasting Service (ESBS), Enugu State Water Corporation, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium and the state’s Liaison Office in Lagos.

The government described the report as false and misleading, saying it was neither issued by the state government nor the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development.

The Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Dr Nathaniel Urama, made the clarification in a statement on Wednesday.

Urama said the government was only preparing to dispose of some unserviceable assets located at the affected government facilities and had no intention of selling the institutions or the facilities themselves.

He explained that the official notice for the disposal had not been published as of Wednesday, August 27, adding that when released, it would contain details of the specific items to be disposed of and the procedures for interested bidders.

“The information is erroneous and it is neither from Enugu State Government nor the State Ministry of Finance. We, therefore, advise the general public to please ignore the message circulating in the media,” Urama said.

According to the commissioner, the assets earmarked for disposal had become unserviceable and were no longer useful to the state.

He said the disposal would be carried out in accordance with existing laws and due process, stressing that interested bidders would be required to obtain relevant details from the Ministry of Finance and submit their bids through the appropriate process.

Urama urged members of the public and media organisations to verify information from official government channels before sharing or publishing reports concerning government activities.

He warned that the circulation of unverified information could create unnecessary confusion and amount to deliberate misrepresentation of government policies and actions.

The commissioner reiterated that any official notice concerning the disposal of unserviceable government assets would be formally published through the appropriate channels.

He therefore advised the public to disregard the social media publication suggesting that the state government was selling the ESBS, Water Corporation, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium or its Lagos Liaison Office.
