Born on July 27, 1969, in Cameroon to Nigerian parents hailing from Imo State, Francis Duru completed his early education in Cameroon before relocating permanently to Nigeria to pursue higher education. He studied Theatre Arts at the esteemed University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he honed his craft and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1996.

Duru officially launched his remarkable acting career in 1989 when he appeared in the film Missing Mark, directed by the late Ndubuisi Oko. However, it was his iconic portrayal of the character Ahanna in the 1995 blockbuster thriller Rattlesnake, produced by the legendary filmmaker Amaka Igwe, that catapulted him into national stardom and solidified his status as a household name in Nollywood.

Over a celebrated career spanning more than three decades, Duru starred in numerous critically acclaimed Nigerian films, including Blood Money (1997), Stigma (2013), and Mboputa (2020). His exceptional talent and dedication earned him several accolades, including the Best Actor in a Leading Role (Igbo) award at the Best of Nollywood Awards for his stellar performance in Mboputa.

Beyond his artistic achievements, he was deeply respected for his leadership within the creative community, having served as the interim president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) in 2010. Recognized for his positive influence on the younger generation, he was also honored as a United Nations Ambassador of Peace in 2007.
