Governor Ugwuanyi Inaugurates Enugu State Infectious Disease Hospital

 

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State inaugurated the Enugu State Infectious Disease Hospital, formerly the Colliery Hospital, Enugu. The hospital underwent reconstruction and remodeling to provide state-of-the-art facilities for the isolation and treatment of patients with infectious diseases. This proactive effort by Governor Ugwuanyi’s administration was in response to the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus disease in the state in 2020.

The Enugu State Infectious Disease Hospital stands as a significant facility in the state, demonstrating the commitment to addressing emerging infectious public health diseases. The hospital boasts various departments, including Administrative Block, Female Ward, Male Ward, Maternity/Children Ward, Accident and Emergency Unit, OPD, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Security/Generator House, among others.

Additionally, Governor Ugwuanyi is set to inaugurate several other flagship projects on Friday, marking the successful conclusion of his eight-year tenure. These projects include the first flyover bridge constructed by the Enugu State Government at T-Junction, Nike Lake Road, Enugu; the 5,000-seat Township Stadium in Nsukka; the remodelled Old Government Lodge in GRA, Enugu, with the construction of an annex, a state-of-the-art banquet hall, and guest accommodations; a befitting State Secretariat Annex and Conference Centre in Nsukka; and the newly constructed Nsukka Press Centre.

During the inauguration, Governor Ugwuanyi announced the donation of a fully equipped Toyota Hiace ambulance dedicated to the Infectious Disease Hospital. While the facility is currently overseen by the Office of the Governor, the incoming administration of Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah will appoint the management team and officers for the hospital.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Obi, expressed gratitude to Governor Ugwuanyi for his unwavering commitment to the health needs of the people, both in urban and rural areas. The governor’s dedication to the health sector has been exemplary, and his administration has taken care of the welfare of health workers.

Dignitaries at the event include the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Ifeanyi Agujiobi, Executive Secretary, Enugu State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. George Ugwu, Executive Secretary, Enugu State Agency for Universal Health Coverage, Dr. Edith Okolo, Executive Secretary, Enugu State Agency for Control of AIDS, Dr. Arthur Idoko, State Chairman, Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Comrade Ben Asogwa, State Chairman, Joint Negotiating Council, Comrade Ezekiel Omeh, among others.
