Enugu State witnessed a significant political transition as barrister Peter Ndubuisi Mbah was sworn in as the executive governor on May 29th. The inauguration ceremony, held at the prestigious Michael Okpara Square, was attended by a multitude of enthusiastic residents of Enugu and several distinguished dignitaries. Among the notable guests were the former Governor Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and his Deputy, Barr Cecelia Ezeilo, as well as former Governor Barr Sullivan Chime, former Governor of old Anambra State Senator Jim Nwobodo, Senator Chukwuka Utazi, Rt. Hon. Edward Ubosi (Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly), Roman Catholic Bishop Callistus Valentine Onaga, members of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, members of Ndi Nze N’ Ozo, and various other dignitaries.
Following his official oath-taking, Governor Mbah wasted no time in getting to work. His first action in office was the signing of Executive Order 001, aptly named the “Citizens Charter.” The order aims to outline the governor’s priorities and set the tone for his administration’s governance agenda.
Today, Governor Mbah announced his appointment of Prof. Chidiebere Onyia as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG). This announcement was made via the governor’s official Facebook page.
Prior to his appointment, Prof. Onyia held the position of Managing Director at the United Kingdom Nigeria Infrastructure Facility. He also served as the Lead Strategy Advisor for the Federal Government of Nigeria under the World Bank Group Power Sector Recovery Programme. Throughout his career, he has been actively involved in providing services to various international organizations and countries, including the United Nations, Germany, and Russia.
Prof. Onyia is a highly accomplished individual with an impressive educational background. He currently serves as a Visiting Professor of Education at Godfrey Okoye University in Enugu and has previously held a similar position at the University of Nigeria Nsukka. In addition, he contributes his expertise to the governing councils of two private Nigerian universities.
With a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree, and a Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership, Prof. Onyia possesses a diverse academic foundation. Furthermore, he pursued a post-doctoral scholarship in Education Policy from the prestigious Ivy League institution, Peabody College at Vanderbilt University.
Prof. Onyia’s exceptional career spans over 25 years and encompasses leadership, innovation, strategy, institutional reforms, and research. His contributions to the education sector have earned him numerous international and national awards and recognition for his outstanding leadership excellence. He is widely published and renowned as a certified educational consultant, researcher, presenter, mentor, and author of multiple books.
