FAAN Shuts Down KFC Outlet at Lagos Airport:  The branch of a well-known fast-food chain, KFC, situated at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos State,

has been closed by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). The closure follows an incident

involving a Passenger with Reduced Mobility (PRM) who reported discriminatory treatment at the outlet.

FAAN acted in accordance with Lagos State law on People with Special Needs, Section 55, General Provisions on

Discrimination, instructing KFC to tender a written apology to the affected individual and display a policy statement

of non-discrimination before resuming operations.

The victim, Adebola Daniel, son of former Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel, recounted his distressing experience

at the KFC outlet through a series of tweets. Daniel, a wheelchair user, described feeling dehumanized by the treatment he received, emphasizing the prevalence of discrimination against disabled individuals in Nigeria. His tweets highlighted the lack of accessibility in public spaces and the urgent need for societal change.

The Plan

In response to the allegations, KFC expressed remorse and announced plans to implement sensitivity training for its employees. The outlet emphasized its commitment to inclusivity and respect for all customers, pledging to rectify the situation swiftly.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs condemned the incident, emphasizing the agency’s dedication to protecting the rights of persons with disabilities. LASODA urged individuals who have experienced discrimination to report such incidents, reaffirming its commitment to building an inclusive and accessible society.
