Okebukola calls for sensitisation of youths to curb copyright infringements: Former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Emeritus Peter Okebukola,
has underscored the pressing need for comprehensive youth sensitisation initiatives to combat the rampant infringement of intellectual property rights.
Speaking at a sensitisation programme organised by the UNESCO Institute for African Culture and International Understanding
(IACIU) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Professor Okebukola called for the need to equip young individuals with the requisite knowledge
on the legal and ethical implications of copyright infringement.
Speaking on the theme of the programme, “Building a Culture of Respect for Intellectual Property: Youth Sensitisation on Copyright
Infringement,” Professor Okebukola highlighted the programme’s pivotal role in raising awareness and nurturing a culture of reverence
for intellectual property rights among the youth.
He expressed deep concern over the escalating prevalence of copyright infringement, particularly in today’s digital era, emphasising the
urgency of proactive measures to address this challenge.
Professor Okebukola said: “This workshop serves as an invaluable platform for engaging our youths in substantive discussions and
interactive sessions aimed at enlightening them about the legal and ethical ramifications of copyright infringement.

In his call to action, he advocated for intensified sensitisation efforts targeting the youth to underscore the significance of respecting

understanding of the importance of safeguarding intellectual property rights.
Professor Okebukola concluded by rallying stakeholders to collaborate in forging a future where creativity is celebrated, innovation is nurtured, and intellectual property rights are upheld by all members of society.
