Enugu-Based Reporter Dennis Agbo Survives: Enugu-based journalist Dennis Agbo narrowly escaped a violent attack on Sunday,

along with four others, by armed youths from Neke community in the

Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State. Working for Vanguard in

Enugu, Agbo had taken four labourers to clear farmland in Ugwuokwunele

Umuaram in Ikem. Upon arrival, they discovered that houses had been erected on the land.

As Agbo attempted to ascertain the owners, approximately 10 individuals descended on them,

initiating a brutal assault.

The attackers kidnapped Agbo and his companions, confiscating their motorcycles,

and transported them to Neke village. There, they were confronted by over 300 armed

youths who threatened them with death. After enduring more than three hours of

captivity, negotiation led by a man named Sunday Ekwu secured their release. However, the assailants seized personal belongings such as phones and wheelbarrows before letting them go.

Agbo suffered severe injuries from the attack, with one of his companions hospitalized

due to eye damage. The journalist recounted the incident, highlighting that the land in

question belonged to his family. His late uncle had resided on the property for his entire life and was buried there.

Agbo promptly reported the attack to the police, emphasizing the need for intervention.

The assault underscores the escalating tensions over land ownership in the area,

with disputes often leading to violence. Despite the harrowing experience, Agbo remains determined to seek justice and ensure the safety of his family’s land rights.
