The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has announced that 26 cargo vessels carrying petroleum products, food items and other commodities are expected to arrive at Apapa Port, Tin Can Island Port and Lekki Deep Sea Port in Lagos between July 21 and July 26.

The development is expected to boost cargo traffic across the nation’s busiest seaports as import activities continue to gather momentum.

The disclosure was contained in the NPA’s Daily Shipping Position released on Tuesday.

According to the authority, 11 of the incoming vessels are container ships transporting assorted imported goods, while the remaining 15 vessels are expected to deliver a wide range of cargoes, including premium motor spirit (petrol), crude oil, automotive gas oil (diesel), aviation fuel, bulk wheat, bulk urea, fresh fish, trucks and general cargo. Some of the vessels are also scheduled to undergo repair works.

The NPA further disclosed that 16 ships have already arrived at the three ports and are currently awaiting berthing.

The waiting vessels are laden with petrol, bulk wheat, general cargo, bulk fertilizer, diesel, bulk urea, containers, bulk pallets and bulk sugar.

Meanwhile, cargo operations are ongoing across the ports, with 25 vessels currently discharging various consignments.

According to the authority, the ongoing discharge operations involve bulk wheat, containers, general cargo, petrol, diesel, crude oil, aviation fuel, bulk gypsum, bulk sugar and bulk gas, among other commodities.

The steady flow of vessels reflects sustained import activities through Nigeria’s major seaports, with Apapa Port, Tin Can Island Port and Lekki Deep Sea Port remaining key gateways for petroleum products, agricultural commodities and manufactured goods entering the country.
