Nigerian Publishers Association: The Nigerian Publishers Association (NPA) has emphasized the importance of

embracing various book formats, including e-books, to ensure widespread access to knowledge.

During a virtual press conference held on Tuesday to commemorate World Book and

Copyright Day on April 23, NPA President Chief Cyril Anioke highlighted the need for members

to adapt to technological advancements to facilitate easy reading for all.

Under the theme “Read Your Way,” Chief Anioke acknowledged the diverse forms of books

available today, emphasizing the association’s commitment to encouraging its members to keep pace

with technological trends. He noted the significance of the United Nations’ designation of April 23 as World Book and Copyright Day, recognizing the pivotal role of high-quality book production in stimulating intellectual engagement.

Representing the NPA president, Deputy President Chief Austin Onwubiko underscored the

timeliness of this year’s theme, given the transformative impact of technology on the industry.

“Read Your Way” advocates for empowering individuals, particularly children, to choose and enjoy reading,

fostering a conducive environment where reading becomes a source of pleasure.

In the past, access to reading materials was limited, with few options available in hard copy format,

necessitating physical movement to access them. However, technological advancements have revolutionized reading habits, offering a plethora of options at one’s fingertips. With the click of a button, individuals can now purchase and access a wide range of books anytime, anywhere.

Furthermore, the availability of digital screens and audio formats has expanded reading opportunities, allowing individuals to engage with books at their convenience. “Reading our way” promotes personal and intellectual development, enhancing language skills, critical thinking, and broadening perspectives by exploring new ideas and concepts.

Earlier, Executive Secretary of NPA Mr. Emmanuel Abimbola highlighted the existence of World Book Day, celebrated on the first Thursday in March in the United Kingdom and Ireland. This distinction is due to the clash between April 23, Saint George’s Day and Easter celebration
