Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Conclude Nigerian Tour with Emphasis on Sports and Unity

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wrapped up their three-day visit to Nigeria on Sunday, culminating in a vibrant event in Lagos promoting the Invictus Games for wounded military veterans. The couple’s journey aimed to foster unity and highlight the transformative power of sports.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex began their visit in Abuja, where they attended a school event focusing on mental health awareness. Prince Harry also met with wounded soldiers during their time in the Federal Capital Territory.

In Lagos, the royal couple enthusiastically participated in a basketball event organized by the Giants of Africa Foundation, an organization dedicated to empowering youth through sports engagement. Prince Harry, a former army captain, emphasized the positive impact of sports on individuals and communities, underscoring the mission of the Invictus Games, which he founded a decade ago.

Additionally, the couple met with Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, discussing various topics including mental health support for military personnel. Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his gratitude for the royal couple’s commitment to highlighting such critical issues and expressed interest in potentially hosting the Invictus Games in Nigeria.

Acknowledging Meghan’s Nigerian heritage, Governor Sanwo-Olu commended her attire and expressed appreciation for her role in promoting cultural exchange and women’s leadership.

During the tour, Meghan engaged in discussions on women’s leadership with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director of the World Trade Organization, highlighting her Nigerian roots and the importance of embracing heritage.

In Abuja, Prince Harry participated in a seated volleyball match with veterans, showcasing the resilience of individuals who have served their country.

Before concluding their visit to Nigeria, Prince Harry commemorated the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games in London.

The royal couple’s tour emphasized the significance of sports in promoting unity, resilience, and mental well-being, leaving a positive impact on the communities they visited.
