Police Contradict Eyewitness Reports and then Confirm Four Deaths in Enugu Crash: A devastating multiple vehicle crash occurred on Tuesday evening around 7 pm on the Enugu-Onitsha
Federal highway in Enugu State, resulting in fatalities and injuries. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that two people lost their lives in the accident, while the Enugu State
Police Command reported four fatalities, contradicting earlier reports of 25 deaths
circulating on social media.
According to the FRSC Sector Commander, Adeyemi Sokunbi, the accident involved
seven vehicles and 29 people, with two deaths at the scene and 10 others rushed
to the hospital, including eight male adults and two female adults. One of the injured
is in critical condition and receiving intensive care at Parklane Hospital.
the eyewitnesses
Eyewitnesses claimed that the crash involved 10 vehicles, including private and
commercial buses, and blamed the military checkpoint in the area for the accident.
They reported that a trailer experienced brake failure and smashed into multiple cars,
resulting in over 25 instant fatalities and several injuries.
The FRSC and police are investigating the incident, with the FRSC attributing the
cause to a failed tank brake that collided with other vehicles. The police spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed four fatalities, contradicting the FRSC’s report of two deaths.
The accident has sparked concerns about the safety of the highway and the military
checkpoint in the area, with calls for improved safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
