Ogbeh Identifies Key Factors Behind Nigeria’s Hunger Crisis

Ogbeh Identifies Key Factors Behind Nigeria’s Hunger Crisis: Former Minister

of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has identified

key factors contributing to hunger and starvation in Nigeria. In

an exclusive interview, Ogbeh attributed the situation to institutional policies,

lack of attention to agriculture at state and local government levels, and

limitations associated with small-scale farming. He emphasized that the

agricultural sector is in danger due to issues such as high interest rates for farmers, absence of subsidies, and non-availability of mechanized implements and fertilizers.

Ogbeh, an agricultural expert with extensive experience in government

and party leadership, highlighted the challenges faced by small-scale farmers,

who constitute 90% of Nigerian farmers. He noted that they lack access to improved seeds, mechanized implements, and fertilizers, leading to low productivity and food insecurity.

The former minister also criticized the lack of attention to agriculture at state and local government levels, stating that governance is focused on the federal government, neglecting the role of local governments in agricultural development. He emphasized the need for a strong partnership between federal, state, and local governments to address the challenges facing the agricultural sector.

Ogbeh also assessed the performance of past administrations, including Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, Jonathan, Buhari, and Tinubu, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. He emphasized the need for effective party management and governance, noting that party administration in Nigeria is a complete disaster.

Regarding the current administration, Ogbeh commended President Tinubu’s courage in taking bold steps but expressed concerns about the potential consequences of his actions. He warned about the dangers of fortune hunters within the system and emphasized the need for the president to watch out for those who may harm him.
