Youth leaders from the Forum of National Youth Leaders of Political Parties in Nigeria (FNYLPP) have issued a firm disclaimer regarding the National Leadership of the Labour Party (LP). In a press release from Kaduna, signed by Comrade Eragbe Anslem Aphimia, the forum emphasized that Eragbe is the legitimate National Publicity Secretary of FNYLPP and the National Youth Leader of LP. Consequently, the forum has disavowed Mr. Kennedy Ahanotu and Barrister Julius Abure, asserting that both are misrepresenting their roles within the party.

The statement highlighted that Eragbe was elected as the national youth leader of LP in 2019, and remains in office legally, countering any unfounded claims to the contrary. The forum called for Ahanotu and Abure to cease representing themselves as part of the party’s national leadership. They accused Abure of overseeing an unlawful National Convention on March 27, 2024, in Nnewi, Anambra State, which allegedly violated a court ruling from March 20, 2018.

Comrade Eragbe reiterated that he is the only legitimate National Youth Leader of LP, having been elected during the National Convention held on June 10, 2019, in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, and will remain in this position until the next expansive national convention in 2025. He issued a warning to Ahanotu to stop claiming the role of National Youth Leader, stating that legal action would be pursued if he continues to do so.

Additionally, Eragbe cautioned Abure against presenting himself as the National Chairman of LP, asserting that Abure’s tenure officially ended on June 8, 2024. The forum also mentioned that the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on September 4, 2024, appointed Senator Esther Nenadi Usman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as Chairperson and Secretary, respectively, to oversee a 29-member committee tasked with organizing congresses for the 2025 national convention. Furthermore, the forum recommended Dr. Halima Tejuosho for the position of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
