Tinubu, Mbah, and the Transformation of Enugu: Effective Leadership in Action

On January 4, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Enugu State, commissioning multiple infrastructural projects spearheaded by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. The projects include 30 of the 260 Enugu Green Smart Schools under construction, 60 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres spread across 260 wards, the Enugu International Conference Centre, 90 newly completed urban roads, and a Command and Control Centre equipped with 150 AI-enabled patrol vehicles for enhanced security.

Governor Mbah’s initiatives signal an ambitious plan to elevate Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion within eight years, underscoring his commitment to health, education, infrastructure, transportation, and security. President Tinubu’s visit has placed Enugu on the global map, attracting attention as a hub for investment and a model for visionary governance.

Tinubu emphasized that leadership transcends party affiliations, lauding Governor Mbah’s dedication to development. Despite belonging to opposing political parties—Mbah of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC)—Tinubu affirmed his support for competent leaders who prioritize national progress.

Governor Mbah has been praised for fostering inclusive growth, eradicating past practices of selective development, and ensuring every part of Enugu benefits equally. The projects commissioned during Tinubu’s visit meet global standards, reflecting Mbah’s private-sector background and focus on excellence.

As a non-oil-producing state, Enugu’s achievements highlight Mbah’s transformative leadership. His contributions to modernizing Enugu are expected to leave a lasting legacy, setting a benchmark for governance in Nigeria. Governor Mbah’s work is a testament to the possibilities of visionary leadership, regardless of limited resources.
