Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has expressed concerns over the influence of powerful cabals within President Bola Tinubu’s administration, characterizing them as more ambitious and sophisticated compared to those in former President Muhammadu Buhari’s government. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Dalung, who served under Buhari’s administration, highlighted the intricate power dynamics he witnessed during his tenure.
Dalung described Buhari’s situation as being akin to a “stranger” in his own government, suggesting that the cabals around him were less educated and primarily driven by narrow interests. In contrast, he noted that the cabals surrounding Tinubu are highly experienced, ambitious, and well-educated, with a long history of influence in governance.
“Buhari’s government had a cabal, but President Bola Tinubu’s cabal is made up of sophisticated and ambitious people with a long history in power. They are experienced and educated,” Dalung explained.
He warned that Tinubu might face even greater challenges than his predecessor, given the advanced strategies and ambitions of the current cabal.
Dalung also urged Nigerians to acknowledge and critically examine discussions about the existence of cabals in governance. “It would be unfair to posterity to deny the existence of such dangerous elements,” he emphasized.
The former minister’s remarks shed light on the internal struggles and influence of non-elected power brokers in Nigerian politics, raising questions about their impact on decision-making and the nation’s democratic processes.
