The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has called on the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, in Niger State, to reverse its recent increase in tuition fees. Adeniji Boluwaji Temitope, NAPS President, issued a statement detailing the association’s position and the concerns raised by students.
According to the statement, the NAPS Senate Leadership has received multiple complaints, including from the Student Union President of the institution, regarding the fee hike. Despite efforts to engage the school management for a resolution, the association claims that the management has been unresponsive.
In response, NAPS has issued a seven-day ultimatum, urging the Polytechnic to lower the fees and convene a formal meeting with representatives from the Students’ Union Government and the NAPS Senate Leadership. The association further alleged that fee increments have become a recurring issue at the institution, occurring almost every academic session.
To amplify its stance, NAPS has instructed students to withhold payment of the revised fees until the management addresses their grievances and engages in meaningful discussions with student leaders. The association also warned of severe consequences if their demands are not met within the stipulated timeframe.
NAPS stated that if the management fails to comply, it will mobilize students to shut down the institution until the fee structure is revised. This firm stance underscores the association’s commitment to ensuring that education remains accessible and affordable for all students.
