The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has established an 11-member State Reconciliation Committee to address internal conflicts stemming from its defeat in the 2023 general elections to the Labour Party. The decision was announced by the party’s State Executive Committee (SEC) and confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the State Publicity Secretary, Eric Dwyse Ikwuagwu.
Elder Amah Abraham will chair the committee, with Barr. Bob Chidozie Ogu serving as secretary. Other members include Rt. Hon. Solomon Akpulonu, Mrs. Love Ezema, Lady Ijeoma Okorie, Lady Gift Eugene, Sir Tony Ezebuiro, Rt. Hon. Emeka Stanley, Rt. Hon. Barr. Phillip Okey Igwe, Rt. Hon. Bishop Kennedy Njoku, and all PDP-elected members of the Abia State House of Assembly.
The committee’s primary role is to identify grievances within the party and assess concerns raised by members and stakeholders. To achieve this, the committee will gather feedback through various channels, such as surveys, interviews, and open forums, ensuring inclusivity in the process.
Additionally, the committee will mediate between conflicting factions, organizing dialogue sessions to foster understanding and collaboration. It will also propose actionable strategies to resolve disputes, strengthen party unity, and enhance decision-making. Mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of reconciliation measures will be established, including benchmarks and timelines for progress.
A comprehensive report outlining findings, discussions, and recommendations will be submitted to the party’s leadership. This report will also be accessible to all members to ensure transparency and accountability.
The committee will work in close collaboration with His Excellency Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, Abia State’s representative on the PDP National Reconciliation Committee, for additional guidance and support. This initiative aims to rebuild the party’s cohesion and strengthen its position in the state.
