Adeleke Quits PDP Amid National Crisis, Keeps Next Move Secret

—– Says, the current instability made his continued membership untenable.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), becoming the fifth governor to exit the crisis-ridden opposition party in 2025.

In a social media post on Monday, December 1, Governor Adeleke announced that he had submitted his resignation letter nearly a month earlier, on Tuesday, November 4, to the PDP leadership in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government.

Adeleke attributed his decision to the deepening leadership crisis at the national level of the PDP. He thanked the party for giving him the opportunity to serve both as senator and governor of Osun State.

His resignation comes months ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election, where he is expected to seek a second term. However, the governor did not reveal which political platform he intends to contest under, fueling speculation in political circles.

Adeleke’s exit adds to the growing list of PDP governors who have dumped the party this year. Others include Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Peter Mbah (Enugu), and Agbu Kefas (Taraba), all of whom defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Recent rumours suggested Adeleke had attempted to join the APC but faced internal resistance within the party. With his next move still undecided publicly, Osun’s political landscape is set for heightened tension as the 2026 election draws near.
