In a determined effort to curb insecurity, the Executive Chairman of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area in Enugu State, Barr. Chijioke Ezugwu, yesterday, April 18, 2025, inaugurated an Expanded Abbi Ward Neighborhood watch group for farm protection.
The event which was held at Abbi Central School became necessary following the community decision to set up a Special Guard to protect farmers, farmlands and the forest.
Speaking during the inauguration, the chairman said the local security outfit is designed to complement the efforts of the police and other security agencies in fighting insecurity in the region.
Emphasising the importance of securing Agricultural resources, Ezugwu pleaded the community to release 200 hectares of land where the state government will construct Farm Estate, assuring that it will help to reduce insecurity and also protect our farmlands.
The chairman, while maintaining that his government remained committed to the security of lives and property, expressed confidence that with the right collaboration between the local security and other agencies, Abbi and Uzo-uwani at large will be the safest place in Nigeria. He implored the security operatives to be law-abiding, dedicated and committed to their duties, while assuring his administration’s support.
Speaking, the Divisional police officer, Nimbo Division, CSP Jeremiah Acheke, advised the squad to act in accordance with the law, asking for collaboration with other security agencies and effectively discharging their duties.
Addressing the gathering, the Chairman, Abbi/Ezikolo Welfare Management Committee, Chief Barr.Aloysius Ajogwu, highlighted their challenges and their efforts, asking for government’s support.
His words, “Mr.Chairman Sir, no community can successfully secure itself without the government’s reassuring impact or subvention.”
He thanked the Executive chairman,Barr Ezugwu for coming to their town,Abbi for the inauguration, asking God for God’s protection in his life.
Other Speakers who commended the chairman for his efforts in fighting insecurity include HRH Eze Fidelis Eze, Agabaidu 17th of Abbi Ancient kingdom, NULGE Chairman, Comrade Festus Okeagu, PhD, Honourable Councilor representing Abbi Ward,Hon.Patrick Ekowa among others.
