Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has sworn in Mr. Benson Ojeikere, a native of Edo State, as the new Head of Service in a historic move reflecting the governor’s commitment to inclusivity and merit-based appointments. This decision aligns with Governor Otti’s guiding principle, “If you live in Abia, you are Abian,” emphasizing unity and equality within the state.
Mr. Ojeikere’s relationship with Abia State began during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program in the late 1990s. His exceptional service earned him recognition as the Best Corps Member of his batch and automatic employment in the Abia State Civil Service. Over the years, his diligence and professionalism led to several promotions, culminating in his appointment as a Permanent Secretary in 2023 under Governor Otti’s administration.
After a rigorous and transparent selection process, Mr. Ojeikere was chosen as the most qualified candidate for the prestigious role of Head of Service. His appointment marks a significant milestone as he becomes the first non-Igbo individual to hold this position in Abia State.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Otti congratulated Mr. Ojeikere and urged him to bring innovation and excellence to the civil service. The governor emphasized his vision of transforming the Abia State Civil Service into a model institution renowned for its efficiency and productivity.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Ojeikere expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity, describing it as a reflection of Governor Otti’s dedication to fairness and meritocracy. He pledged to work tirelessly to reposition the civil service, aligning its goals with the administration’s vision for a more effective and results-driven workforce.
