Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, on Tuesday, 2nd December, 2025 presented a record-breaking N1.62 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill to the Enugu State House of Assembly, unveiling the boldest fiscal proposal in the state’s history.

The budget, tagged a transformational spending plan, represents a significant 66.5% increase from the 2025 fiscal year as the administration doubles down on infrastructure expansion, social sector investment, and economic modernization.

Governor Mbah disclosed that the budget will be funded through N870 billion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), N387 billion FAAC allocation, and N329 billion in capital receipts, including development finance windows and strategic partnerships.

A key highlight of the proposal is its strong focus on development oriented expenditure, with 80% allocated to capital projects while 20% is earmarked for recurrent spending.

The governor said this structure aligns with his administration’s vision of repositioning Enugu as a premier investment hub built on innovation, world-class infrastructure, and human capital development.

According to Mbah, the 2026 spending plan will drive major interventions in roads and bridges, education, healthcare delivery, water supply systems, technology, security, and job creation.

He also revealed plans to construct five new ultra-modern bus terminals at 9th Mile, Four Corner, Udi, Awgu, and Obollo Afor.

In a surprising infrastructure push, the governor further announced the procurement of 14 new aircraft to expand Enugu’s aviation capacity as part of the state’s long-term economic transformation agenda.

With the presentation of the budget, the Enugu State House of Assembly is expected to begin detailed deliberations in the coming days, marking a crucial phase in the state’s 2026 fiscal planning cycle.
