The Governors of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Urge the APC-led Federal Government to Step Down if Unable to Address Nigeria’s Challenges
In response to Nigeria’s ongoing challenges, particularly regarding governance and national welfare, governors from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have advised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, led by President Bola Tinubu, to gracefully relinquish power if unable to rally Nigerians and all levels of government for sustainable solutions.
The PDP governors, speaking through their forum, stressed that the hardships faced by Nigerians transcend tribal, religious, or partisan lines, highlighting the universal truth that “a hungry man is an angry man.”
Expressing their sentiments through a statement issued by their Director-General, Hon CID Maduabum, the PDP Governors underscored the ultimate responsibility of the President as Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer and the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. They acknowledged their stakeholder role in governance and pledged to continue collaborating with the President to navigate the challenges exacerbated by the APC since 2015.
The PDP Governors also criticized officials of the APC-led Federal Government, including the Minister of Information and the APC Governors’ Forum, for their disparaging remarks about the PDP Governors’ interventions and suggestions. They emphasized that the APC sought power to solve Nigeria’s problems, not exacerbate them or shift blame.
Furthermore, the PDP Governors highlighted the need for collaborative efforts between the federal and sub-national governments to address security and economic challenges. They reiterated their longstanding call for the creation of state police and urged fiscal and monetary authorities to work together to find appropriate solutions.
During a question and answer session, the Chairman of the Forum warned of the potential dire consequences if urgent action is not taken to address the nation’s issues, likening the situation to Venezuela’s crisis.
In conclusion, the PDP Governors commended President Bola Tinubu for convening a special meeting to discuss these pressing issues and reaffirmed their commitment to contributing to governance as patriotic stakeholders.
