Uche Igwe (40), a broadcaster who, has on Monday appeared before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly sharing on Twitter, a video of a 10-year-old Chrisland Schools student, who was intimate with her mates in a hotel room while participating in an international schools sports competition in Dubai, United Arab Emirate (UAE). The broadcaster is facing a two-count charge of cyberstalking and breach of peace.
Prosecution counsel attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department Panti, Augustine Nwabuisi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 18, on Twitter. According to reports:
The alleged offences contravene Section 24 (1) (a) (b) (i) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition and Prevention) Act of 2015, and Section 168 (d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 24 (1) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition and Prevention) Act of 2015 provides for 10 years’ imprisonment for cyberstalking.
Breach of peace is punishable with three months jail term under Section 168 (d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
However, he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
