Buhari Sued By SERAP For Blocking Phone Lines Over NIN

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against President Muhammadu Buhari for refusing to order the unblocking of telephone lines of over 72 million nigerians recently barred from making calls on their SIMs.
Recall that the Buhari-led government had ordered telecommunications companies to block outgoing calls on all phone lines unlinked with National Identification Number NIN as the verification deadline expired on March 31st. Over 72 million subscribers were subsequently barred from placing calls with their lines.
SERAP in the suit number FHC/L/CS/711/2022 filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos, is seeking an order to set aside the directive by Buhari to telecommunications companies to block outgoing calls on all unlinked lines without following the due process of law.
Many policy analysts have marked the Buhari government as very notorious for serially flouting due process in its operations.
