Building Bridges: Empowering Traditional Leaders and WACOL Staff with Special Mediation Skills for Conflict Resolution

Women Aid Collective (WACOL), in partnership with the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) and Pens and Voices Nigeria Limited, organized a five-day training on Special Mediation Skills, Accreditation, and Certification from March 10 to March 14, 2025. Supported by funding from the Ford Foundation, the event took place at the Gold Value Hotel in Enugu, Nigeria.

The training aimed to enhance mediation skills as well as conflict resolution capacities among traditional and cultural leaders, and WACOL staff was conducted by the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) in collaboration with Pens and Voices Nigeria Limited.

The program attracted traditional rulers from the five southeastern states of Nigeria. His Royal Majesty, Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu, the Chairman of Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers and traditional ruler of Edem Ani, led the delegation of royal participants.

The training proved to be impactful, offering participants valuable mediation skills to foster peaceful conflict resolution. Held at the Gold Value Hotels on Upper Chime Avenue in Enugu, this initiative highlights WACOL’s commitment to equipping stakeholders with practical tools for addressing disputes constructively.

Through this collaborative effort, traditional leaders were empowered to play pivotal roles in promoting harmony within their communities.
