Professor Charles Soludo has officially commenced a second term as Governor of Anambra State after taking the oath of office at a ceremony held in Awka on Tuesday.
The inauguration took place at the newly refurbished Alex Ekwueme Square, where Soludo was sworn in alongside his deputy, Onyeka Ibezim. The event attracted a large gathering of prominent political figures from across the country.
Representing the Federal Government was Vice President Kashim Shettima, while former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan were also present. Other notable attendees included former Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku and Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State, alongside several other state governors.
Soludo secured his second term following a decisive victory in the November 8, 2025 governorship election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission. He emerged winner with a total of 422,664 votes.
His closest challenger, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress, garnered 99,445 votes, while the Young Progressives Party candidate, Paul Chukwuma, came third with 37,753 votes. Altogether, 16 candidates contested in the election.
The scale of Soludo’s victory was evident in his dominance across the state, as he won in all 21 local government areas. Out of the 2,788,864 registered voters, 598,229 were accredited to vote, with 595,298 total votes cast and 11,244 declared invalid.
