On Friday, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, issued a firm directive to military commanders and troops across the nation, instructing them to decisively eliminate all terrorist threats from Nigerian soil without hesitation or leniency. This strong message came as he brought the COAS Biannual Conference to a close in Maiduguri — a strategic gathering where senior army officials convened over the past three days to develop strategies aimed at strengthening national security and maintaining peace.
General Oluyede emphasized that there is no ambiguity in the army’s resolve to eradicate those who disrupt peace and endanger the country’s unity. He urged every officer and soldier to act with total commitment and leave no room for terrorists and criminals to operate or regroup. These hostile elements, he noted, are bent on destabilizing the country and dismantling the societal structures carefully established by past generations — a threat the Nigerian Army will never allow to succeed.
He highlighted that decisions reached during the conference must be fully executed to realize the outlined goals of the event. In the coming weeks, additional combat support systems will be integrated into active operations. However, he stressed that the real power of the army lies not merely in its weaponry, but in the dedication and determination of the soldiers who use them.
General Oluyede called on all officers to lead by example, nurturing and guiding younger soldiers with integrity and purpose. He acknowledged the seriousness of the threat facing the nation’s cultural and social foundations and praised the high level of insight, depth, and vision shown throughout the conference discussions. He concluded by affirming that the objectives of the meeting were met and assured that all practical recommendations would be implemented to boost ongoing and future military efforts.
