Collaboration not Competition among stakeholders in the housing sector: The group managing Director
of copen group has recommended collaboration rather than competition among stakeholders in the
housing sector as a sure way of providing affordable housing.
Rev chime stated this as a guest on Housing Today, on solid 100.9 fm
He emphasized that Copen Group’s mission is to make home ownership accessible to all Nigerians is a
step in the right direction. However, it is important for the government to collaborate with private
organizations to provide affordable housing solutions for Nigerians, as this will not only help to
reduce the housing deficit in the country but it will also enhance the social-economic well-being
of Nigerians
Collaboration not Competition among stakeholders in the housing sector: Provision of affordable housing
Chime noted that home ownership can be easy if the government engages in providing affordable
housing solutions, as demonstrated by what the Taraba State government did in 2001. He revealed
that the Taraba State government paid 50% of the housing costs, while the remaining 50% was paid
by the Federal Mortgage Bank, and today, the Speaker of the Taraba State government is living in one
of those houses.
However, the CEO of Copen Group and Chairman of NECA South East Zone Enugu, Rev Ugochukwu Chime, FNIS FNIOB, has made it his mission to make home ownership easy and accessible to all Nigerians through his company, Copen Group.

According to Chime, Copen Group has been able to help over 1,000 people become millionaires since
2007 by providing them with affordable housing solutions. He revealed that many people who are currently
living in their homes have discovered that their homes are now valued at tens of millions of Naira, and this
has only been made possible through Copen Group’s mortgage and rent-to-own schemes.
Rev Chime stressed that collaboration is the key to making home ownership affordable for all Nigerians,
and this is why Copen Group does not pay anyone more than 2.5% to ensure that the final product is
affordable to the next person. He also noted that the concept of collaboration is more effective than
the concept of competition when it comes to making home ownership accessible to all Nigerians.
He also urged the government to engage in providing affordable housing solutions for Nigerians, as this
will not only help to reduce the housing deficit in the country, but it will also provide employment
opportunities and enhance the social-economic well-being of Nigerians.

Rev Chime also urged Nigerians to rethink their priorities and focus on owning a home rather than buying
expensive cars, as owning a home will not only provide a sense of security, but it will also enhance their
social status and provide a stable environment for their families.
