Corps Liaison Officer Accused of Assaulting NYSC Members Sparks Outrage and Calls for Justice

In Enugu East Local Government Area, Enugu State, a Corps Liaison Officer (CLO) has come under fire for allegedly assaulting two female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members during a meeting held the previous Saturday. The accused reportedly used intimidation against the victims and later bragged about being “untouchable” due to his purported connections with NYSC officials. This incident gained public attention after a relative of one of the victims shared details on social media, specifically on X (formerly Twitter), under the handle @JoiceofLagos. The post alleged that law enforcement was pressured to abandon the case after police intervention.

The African Women in Public Service (AWiPS) strongly condemned the reported assault, issuing a statement on Monday. Signed by Ugo Agwu-Nnachi, AWiPS President, the statement expressed deep concern over the alleged abuse of power and the intimidation of the victims. Agwu-Nnachi called for urgent and impartial action, emphasizing that these allegations represent a serious violation of the victims’ dignity and rights.

AWiPS pointed out troubling reports that pressure was exerted on law enforcement to drop the case, potentially leaving the victims vulnerable to further harassment. The organization demanded a thorough investigation to ensure accountability and justice. Agwu-Nnachi further remarked that the incident highlights systemic issues within the NYSC program, urging the organization to implement meaningful reforms.

AWiPS reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of women and girls in public service. The group pledged to closely monitor the situation to ensure that justice is served while advocating for systemic changes to prevent such incidents in the future.
