Enugu Approves Recruitment of 6,580 Staff for Smart Green Schools

The Enugu State Government has approved the recruitment of 6,580 qualified candidates into academic, technical and administrative positions across public primary and junior secondary schools, as part of preparations for the take-off of its 267 Smart Green Schools.

The recruitment, approved by Governor Peter Mbah, was announced in a job vacancy advertisement issued by the Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), Hyginus Banko.

Although construction is still ongoing at most of the Smart Green Schools, the state government said the recruitment is aimed at ensuring the institutions are adequately staffed ahead of commencement of academic activities.

According to the advertisement, the recruitment covers 4,698 teachers for core subjects, including Mathematics, English Language, Basic Science, Basic Technology, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), French, Igbo Language and History.

The state is also seeking to recruit 520 Digital Librarians, 380 Experiential Learning Innovators, 267 Guidance and Counsellors, 267 ICT personnel, 267 Laboratory Attendants, 136 Account Officers and 45 Technicians.

The board stated that applicants seeking teaching positions must possess registration, proof of registration or evidence of ongoing registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).

For non-teaching positions, qualification requirements vary according to the role, ranging from university degrees in specialised disciplines such as Library and Information Science, STEM-related fields and Psychology, to Ordinary National Diploma (OND), Trade Test Certificates and SSCE/WASSCE qualifications for positions including Laboratory Attendants, Technicians and ICT personnel.

ENSUBEB further noted that candidates with Degrees or Higher National Diplomas (HND) must present valid National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge or exemption certificates, while proficiency in Information and Communication Technology tools is compulsory for all categories of applicants.

“Interested and qualified candidates are to submit a formal application letter alongside a detailed curriculum vitae, copies of credentials, birth certificate or sworn affidavit of age, and valid contact information,” the board stated.

The board emphasised that the recruitment exercise is free of charge and urged applicants to disregard anyone demanding payment.

Applications will close on Friday, August 14, 2026.
