Enugu East Chairman Unveils Comprehensive Development Plan to Boost Infrastructure, Education, and Agriculture

In a recent broadcast during the Freedom Square live programme on Solid 100.9FM Enugu on February 8, 2025, Hon. Beloved Dan Anike, Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, outlined an ambitious development plan designed to transform the region into a leading example of progress within Enugu State. The event marked the launch of both the Human Capital Development Programme and the registration for the Emerging Tech Skill Programme, which together reflect the administration’s emphasis on infrastructure, education, agriculture, and community welfare.

Anike praised Governor Peter Mbah for his leadership, describing him as a “moving train” that has propelled Enugu State towards European standards. He highlighted the construction of four new bus terminals across the state, complete with fueling stations, hotels, shops, and shelters, which not only improve infrastructure but also provide valuable opportunities for human capital development. Anike expressed confidence that, with such visionary leadership, Enugu East’s growth would flourish as its residents align with the Governor’s goals.

The proposed developments will have a far-reaching impact on Enugu East, which accounts for 10% of the state’s population. Key initiatives include the dualization of critical roads like Abakpa, Ugwuogo, and Opi-Nsukka, improving connectivity within the region. Additionally, five new markets will be established, and Ugwuogo Nike will be designated for agricultural development. The Ogbeke and Ibagwa Nike areas will be developed for housing, and a mediation center and land registry will be set up to resolve disputes and promote peaceful relations between indigenous and non-indigenous residents.

Anike also discussed plans for new roads and enhanced access to smart schools and healthcare facilities. As part of the Governor’s vision, road projects have been approved for areas like Emene, which has previously lacked significant infrastructure. Moreover, 15 communities within the council area have been electrified, with the installation of 12 new transformers and the repair of two existing ones, improving energy access.

Agriculture is also central to the development agenda, with farm estates being established across wards such as Ugwuomo, Ugwuogo, Neke Uno, and Amokpo. These estates will include crop processing equipment, warehouses, and mini housing schemes to boost food production and exports.

In his closing remarks, Anike urged the people of Enugu East to embrace urban renewal initiatives, stressing the importance of maintaining proper sanitation. He encouraged landlords to ensure functioning toilets in their properties and advised tenants to insist on proper sanitation facilities.

The comprehensive plans outlined by Hon. Anike demonstrate a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for Enugu East’s residents and contributing to the broader growth of Enugu State.
