Enugu Govt Under Fire as Railway Workers Condemn Demolition of Offices and Quarters: The Nigerian Railway
Corporation workers have issued a seven-day ultimatum to Enugu State
Governor Peter Mbah to negotiate the replacement of properties demolished by the state government.
The workers staged a peaceful protest, condemning the government’s impunity in demolishing their offices,
staff quarters, training schools, and workshops without providing alternative arrangements for the affected staff.
The President General of the Nigerian Union of Railway Workers, Innocent Ajiji, described the demolition as “outrageous and unacceptable.”
He stated that the government failed to negotiate with the Railway Management or workers’ unions, and that the demolition was carried
out without following due process. Ajiji emphasized that the properties were already in litigation, and the government’s actions were a violation of human rights.

The workers carried placards and chanted labour solidarity songs as they marched through the site where the properties were demolished.
They demanded that the government respect their rights and provide alternative arrangements for the affected staff. The President General
of the Senior Staff Association, NRC, Emeka Okeke, also condemned the demolition, stating that the government’s claims of MoU and compensation were lies.
The workers are determined to fight for their rights and will not accept the government’s actions, which they believe are aimed at driving them out of work.
They have given the government a seven-day ultimatum to negotiate and resolve the issue, failing which they will take legal action. The protest is
a show of strength and solidarity by the workers, who are determined to protect their rights and interests.
