—– Says Zoning has relatively brought good governance and peace in Enugu state
A thought-provoking discourse on the evolution of political power in Enugu State has taken the spotlight following a radio programme aired on Freedom Square, Solid FM 100.9 on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

The programme featured leading contributors to the soon to be unveiled book, “Zoning of Governorship Position in Enugu State (1999–2023).”
Anchored by Uchenna Cyril Anioke, the discussion brought together co-authors Dr. Chikezie Obasi and Umeh Clinton, who offered deep insights into the historical and political dynamics that have shaped leadership in the state from the era of Chimaroke Nnamani to Peter Mbah.
Speaking during the programme, Dr. Obasi emphasized that zoning remains a critical instrument for maintaining balance among the state’s three senatorial zones and diverse cultural blocs.
He noted that the book objectively examines how this unwritten yet respected arrangement has ensured fairness, equity, and political stability in Enugu’s governance structure.
Also lending his voice, Umeh Clinton expressed pride in the work, describing it as a timely contribution to political scholarship and civic awareness.
He explained that zoning in Enugu evolved as a “gentleman’s agreement,” fostering unity among key socio-cultural groups such as Nsukka, Nkanu, Agbaja, Greater Awgu, and Isi-Uzo.
The book is set for official unveiling on May 7, 2026, at the International Conference Centre, Enugu with an array of dignitaries expected to grace the occasion.
Among them are Hon. Chinedu Onu, Igwe Lawrence Agubuzo, Dr. Cosmas Agu, and HRH Godwin Ndubueze Madu, alongside other traditional rulers and stakeholders.
Describing the event as a “convergence of Ndi Enugu,” Anioke underscored its significance as a platform for reflection on the past and a guide for the future of governance in the state.
The unveiling is expected to ignite further conversations on equity, justice, and sustainable political development in Enugu State and beyond.
