The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has officially revoked the Right of Occupancy for Plot No. 243, located within the Central Area (Cadastral Zone A00) of Abuja. The plot, originally granted to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), National Secretariat, has been taken back by the FCT Administration after the party repeatedly failed to settle its outstanding ground rent payments.
The revocation comes after a prolonged failure by the PDP to pay the annual ground rent for the property, which has been due for the last 20 years. Despite multiple reminders and public notices in national newspapers and electronic media since 2023, urging all property holders in the Federal Capital Territory to clear their arrears, the PDP did not make the required payments. The outstanding rent covers the period from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025.
In a statement issued by the Director of Land Administration, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, the Ministry emphasized that the continued non-compliance with the terms of the Right of Occupancy violated provisions of the Land Use Act, specifically Section 28, Subsection 5 (a) and (b). This breach led to the official revocation of the PDP’s rights over the plot.
As a result of the revocation, the property has now reverted to the Federal Capital Territory Administration, which will take immediate possession of the land.
The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has reiterated his commitment to ensuring that all property owners in the Federal Capital Territory adhere to the terms of their land grants, including timely payment of ground rents, in line with the regulatory framework of the Land Use Act.
