The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), under the leadership of Minister Nyesom Wike, has sealed the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), located in the Wuse district of Abuja. The building was closed around 2:05 p.m. on Monday as part of a broader effort by the administration to ensure that property owners within the capital comply with their statutory obligations, particularly in relation to ground rent and land use charges. Upon arrival, FCTA officials instructed the security personnel on site to notify the appropriate authorities within the building. The sealing of the PDP office is seen as a significant step in a growing campaign targeting individuals and institutions that have defaulted on their financial responsibilities to the FCTA.
This action is part of a wider initiative launched by the administration to strengthen adherence to land tenure regulations and bolster the territory’s internally generated revenue. Recently, the FCTA announced the revocation of 4,794 land titles in high-value areas such as Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, and Garki. The crackdown follows revelations that over 8,000 property owners collectively owe the FCTA nearly ₦7 billion in unpaid ground rent, with some debts dating back more than 40 years.
Minister Wike has emphasized that the administration will continue to apply the law strictly, referencing Section 28(5) of the Land Use Act, which grants the government authority to revoke land titles when the terms of occupancy are breached. He declared that the era of leniency is over and that enforcement measures will persist until all outstanding payments are recovered.
