FG disburses N3 billion each to the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to tackle flood

That the federal government has disbursed N3 billion each to the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to mitigate the impact of flooding during the 2024 rainy season. The Ministry of Finance confirmed the disbursement in a statement, highlighting the government’s focus on supporting local farmers and safeguarding the agricultural sector.

 

The statement emphasized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to local economic growth and disaster response, noting that the fund aims to combat, mitigate, and prepare for the effects of flooding. The Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, visited Kebbi State, accompanied by the Executive Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu.

 

During the visit, Edun toured a state-of-the-art rice processing facility, WACOT Rice Limited, which supports thousands of farmers through an extensive procurement network and out-grower farming programs. He also visited a rice farm affected by flooding, reaffirming the federal government’s commitment to mitigating the impact of floods.

 

Edun commended the resilience of the Kebbi State community and highlighted President Tinubu’s dedication to enhancing security and boosting productive capacity in the region. He urged continued private sector investment to expand agricultural production and reinforce Nigeria’s position as a leading agricultural producer.

 

The statement concluded that the federal government’s proactive measures, combined with private sector investment, will enhance agricultural resilience, boost productivity, and solidify Nigeria’s position as a leading agricultural producer. The visit reaffirmed the government’s dedication to supporting local farmers, mitigating natural disasters, and driving economic growth.
