The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) has assured customers, stakeholders and the general public that its operations remain fully functional following the fire incident that affected part of its headquarters in Abuja on Saturday night.
The assurance comes two days after a fire broke out on the second floor of the bank’s headquarters in the Central Business District of Abuja. Prompt intervention by emergency responders prevented the blaze from spreading to other parts of the building, while officials immediately began assessing the extent of the damage.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Group Head, Corporate Communications, Joe Abuku, the bank confirmed that the fire had been successfully contained and that normal business activities had continued without interruption.
According to the bank, although some office furniture, equipment and appliances were damaged in the affected section, critical official records remain secure due to its digital backup systems.
“The fire was successfully contained and prevented from spreading to other parts of the building. Whilst there has been some damage to office furniture, equipment and appliances in the affected areas, we are grateful to report that official documents that were affected are securely backed up electronically, with cloud storage, thanks to the Bank’s digital transformation measures.
“Investigations and evaluations to establish the cause of the fire are still ongoing,” the statement said.
FMBN stressed that the incident has not disrupted its services, assuring customers that appropriate business continuity measures have been activated to guarantee seamless operations.
“The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria hereby reassures all stakeholders, customers, and the general public that this unfortunate development has not compromised the Bank’s operations.
“Appropriate business continuity and mitigation measures are in place to ensure minimum disruption to service delivery. The office remains open for normal business,” the bank stated.
The bank expressed appreciation to the Federal Fire Service, the Nigeria Police Force, members of staff and other stakeholders whose swift response helped contain the incident and prevent further damage.
It also pledged to keep the public informed as investigations into the cause of the fire progress.
“We continue to express our profound appreciation to the Fire Service, the Police, members of staff and all stakeholders whose cooperation and timely response helped to rein in the situation.
“The Bank will provide further updates as new information comes to light,” the statement added.
