FOSAD commends Nnamdi Azikiwe University for swift disciplinary action against student’s assault on lecturer

The Forum of Academic South-East Doctors (FOSAD) commends the management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, for its prompt and decisive action in expelling the female student who physically assaulted a lecturer.

This swift response emphasizes the university’s commitment to upholding academic integrity, discipline, and respect for educators.

The student, Miss Chiamaka Precious Goddy-Mbakwe crossed the boundary of decency and human dignity by biting a lecturer for interrupting her Tiktok video recording which is not part of her academic activities.

As an organization dedicated to promoting academic excellence and ethical conduct within the South-East, FOSAD strongly condemns any form of violence within educational institutions. The assault on a lecturer is not only an affront to the individual involved but also a serious threat to the values that underpin higher education. By taking immediate disciplinary measures, the university has sent a clear message that such misconduct will not be tolerated.

We urge students to always engage with lecturers and university authorities through dialogue and established grievance-resolution channels rather than resorting to violence. Furthermore, we encourage other institutions to adopt a zero-tolerance policy for any actions that undermine the dignity and safety of academic staff.

FOSAD remains committed to fostering a culture of mutual respect, discipline, and academic excellence in universities across the South-East and beyond. We stand in solidarity with the academic community of Nnamdi Azikiwe University and reaffirm our support for policies that ensure a safe and conducive learning environment.
