The Ghanaian government has deported 42 Nigerians from the Ashanti Region following court rulings over offences bordering on prostitution, fraud, and other criminal activities.
The development was confirmed by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account,on Monday.
Amoakohene disclosed that the affected Nigerians were among a total of 68 foreign nationals expelled from the region after being found culpable in various criminal-related matters.
“In total, 42 Nigerians, 13 Cameroonians, 3 Ivorians, 3 Burkinabe nationals, and 7 Benin nationals have been deported from the Ashanti Region to their respective countries,” the minister stated.
He explained that the cases involved offences linked to Q-Net-related activities, prostitution, and other crimes deemed contrary to Ghana’s laws and public order.
The Ashanti Regional Minister emphasized the government’s resolve to enforce the rule of law and maintain security, stressing that Ghana would not tolerate criminal activities by both citizens and foreigners.
The deportation exercise, according to authorities, forms part of ongoing efforts to curb crime, protect residents, and preserve social order within the region.
