INEC Approves Release of National Voter Register and Polling Unit List, Sets ₦1.5 Billion Processing Fee

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved a request from a law firm, V-C Ottaokpukpu & Associates, for the release of a certified true copy of the National Register of Voters and a complete list of all existing polling units across Nigeria. The approval was conveyed in an official letter dated October 13, 2025, and signed by the Commission’s Secretary, Mrs. Rese Oriaran-Anthony.

According to the correspondence, INEC acknowledged receipt of the firm’s earlier application, dated October 8, 2025, which was made under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2011. The Commission noted that the request aligns with Section 15 of the Electoral Act 2022, which allows access to certain electoral documents provided the stipulated procedures are followed.

However, INEC stated that the release of such comprehensive national data would attract a production fee amounting to ₦1,505,901,750 (One Billion, Five Hundred and Five Million, Nine Hundred and One Thousand, Seven Hundred and Fifty Naira). The Commission explained that this amount represents the cost of compiling, reproducing, and providing the certified copies of the voter register and polling unit details from all electoral wards in the country.

The letter further instructed the applicant to make the payment through the INEC Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR) platform at *[www.remita.com](http://www.remita.com)* and to present an electronic receipt as proof of payment before the documents can be processed and released.

INEC assured the law firm of its cooperation and expressed appreciation for adhering to due process in requesting the information. The communication was signed off with the Commission’s formal courtesy, reaffirming its commitment to transparency and compliance with legal provisions regarding access to electoral data.
