Nigerian scholar and tech innovator whose contributions have made significant

impacts globally, particularly in the field of microelectronics and medical robotics.

Renowned for his groundbreaking work in developing microchips utilized in minimally invasive surgical robots, Prof. Ekekwe’s achievements underscore his prowess as a visionary inventor and entrepreneur.

Born in 1975 in Ovim, Isuikwuato, Abia State, Prof. Ekekwe’s academic journey began with stellar performances at the Secondary Technical School, where he set records with eight distinctions. He further pursued his passion for electrical engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, where he graduated as the best student in his class.

Prof. Ekekwe’s academic pursuit led him to acquire two doctoral degrees, one in Management from St. Clements University and another in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, USA, specializing in Microelectronics & Medical Robotics Engineering. Alongside these, he earned four master’s degrees, further cementing his expertise in various disciplines.

His professional trajectory includes notable roles such as a Co-Chairman of JPL Financial Group, a California-based financial advisory firm, and serving on the United States National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center E&D Committee. Additionally, he founded the African Institution of Technology, focusing on providing practical education support and fostering technology policies to spur innovation across African economies.

Prof. Ekekwe’s contributions extend beyond academia, as evidenced by his entrepreneurial endeavors. He founded First Atlantic Semiconductors & Microelectronics Ltd., where he developed microchips integral to minimally invasive surgical robots, showcasing his ingenuity in merging technology with healthcare solutions.
