IPOB Declares APC Boycott Over Delay in Nnamdi Kanu Appeal

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has declared a total political boycott of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the continued delay in the listing of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu’s appeal against his conviction.

The group said the boycott would take immediate effect and directed its members and supporters to stay away from APC rallies and refrain from displaying the party’s insignia.

In a statement issued by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, IPOB accused the Federal Government of frustrating efforts to have Kanu’s appeal heard by the Court of Appeal.

The group alleged that the appeal against Kanu’s November 20, 2025 conviction remained unlisted, while the Federal Government had yet to file its respondent’s brief.

IPOB argued that the appeal raises fundamental constitutional questions concerning the law under which Kanu was convicted and called on the relevant authorities to allow the appellate court to determine the issues.

The organisation also raised concerns over what it described as the disappearance of the court file relating to Kanu’s alleged 14-month detention without trial following his discharge by the Court of Appeal in October 2022.

IPOB alleged that the reported disappearance of the file was frustrating efforts to pursue legal redress over the detention.

The group said its decision to boycott the APC was based on what it described as the Federal Government’s failure to facilitate judicial consideration of Kanu’s appeal.

IPOB had previously threatened to boycott the 2027 general elections across the South-East and other areas if the appeal was not listed and heard. It subsequently said the APC would be the immediate target of its political disengagement.

The group maintained that its position was not an endorsement of another political party, describing its action as a form of political disengagement.

It urged its supporters to withdraw voluntary political support from the APC, avoid its rallies and stop carrying its flags.

IPOB, however, said the boycott should remain peaceful and warned against harassing or threatening people because of their political affiliations.

The organisation also demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Kanu, the listing of his appeal and the restoration of the reportedly missing court file.

The allegations concerning the delay in listing the appeal, the missing court file and the Federal Government’s role in the matter have not been independently verified. The Federal Government and the APC had not publicly responded to the latest allegations at the time of the reports.
