Japa: CBN Governor Urges Nigerians to Stay, Says Economy Will Thrive Soon

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, has urged Nigerians not to leave the country in search of greener pastures. He emphasized that the apex bank is working towards building an economy that benefits everyone, including individuals and businesses.

Cardoso shared his thoughts at the 59th annual Bankers Dinner of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, CIBN, in Lagos. He cautioned that leaving the country at this time would not be wise, citing two main reasons. Firstly, those who sell their assets would be doing so at a low price, making them vulnerable to external “predators” who would buy them cheaply and sell them at a higher price when the economy improves.

Secondly, Cardoso encouraged Nigerians to be part of the solution to the country’s challenges. He noted that there are currently opportunities in the market, with many external investors showing interest in Nigeria. He urged Nigerians to take advantage of these opportunities and work together to build a thriving economy.

While acknowledging the difficulties caused by the ongoing reforms, Cardoso emphasized that they are necessary to address current challenges and secure a better future. He envisions an economy where every individual, business, and community can thrive, but stressed that this requires a collective effort from all stakeholders, including banks, regulators, businesses, and citizens.
