Jibia Residents and Bandits Reach Peace Deal, Hostages Freed in Katsina State

Residents of Jibia Local Government Area in Katsina State have reached a peace agreement with armed bandits in an effort to end years of violence and insecurity in the region. The reconciliation process, which was conducted under Islamic law, aimed to establish long-term peace and stability. Sheikh Barrister Ibrahim Sabi’u, a former secretary of the Islamic Justice Commission and a judge at the Katsina State Court of Reconciliation, highlighted that the negotiations followed Islamic principles to ensure fairness and lasting harmony.

As part of the peace accord, the bandits surrendered two AK-47 rifles and admitted to kidnapping 10 individuals from Daddara town. These abducted persons have since been released and taken to the General Hospital in Jibia for medical evaluation. The peace meeting took place on Friday, February 28, 2025, in Kwari village, and was facilitated by the Jibia People’s Forum, led by Alhaji Gide Dahiru.

A security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, shared details of the development via his X handle on Monday. The talks were attended by key community figures, including Alhaji Sama’ila Mai Maasara, Chairman of the Jibia Business Association, and elder statesman Alhaji Haruna Sada Zare. According to Hikaya Newspaper, notorious bandit leaders Audu Lankai and Tukur Nigerian were also involved in the discussions.

During the negotiation, residents demanded an immediate halt to attacks on Jibia town and its neighboring communities, protection for farmers, and an end to cattle rustling. In response, the bandits pledged to respect government laws, cease cattle rustling, and discontinue their criminal activities.

Zagazola further reported that Alhaji Babangida Bracket, a resident of Daddara, confirmed the release of the kidnapped victims. This agreement is seen as a significant step toward restoring peace and security in Katsina State, offering hope for a more stable future in the region.
