Kaduna Musician, ‘Take Over Kaduna’ Campaigner Reportedly Arrested Amid Political Tensions

A Kaduna-based musician and social media influencer, Zamani Musa, popularly known as Mycah Dangata, has reportedly been arrested and is being detained by security operatives in Kaduna State, a development that has sparked criticism from his supporters and renewed debate over political freedom ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dangata, known for championing the “Take Over Kaduna” movement, was reportedly taken into custody on Tuesday under circumstances that remain unclear.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement explaining the reasons for his arrest or disclose any specific allegations against him.

However, sources familiar with the matter suggested that the musician’s detention may be connected to his political activism and sustained advocacy for a shift in the state’s political leadership.

Through his music and social media platforms, Dangata has been a prominent voice behind the “Take Over Kaduna” movement, a campaign that seeks greater political representation for Southern Kaduna and has publicly promoted former Senator Danjuma Laah as a potential governorship candidate in the 2027 elections.

The movement has reportedly gained support in parts of Southern Kaduna, where concerns over political marginalisation, insecurity and underrepresentation have fueled calls for a power shift within the state.

Supporters of the musician maintain that his advocacy has focused primarily on issues of governance, equity and inclusive leadership. According to them, his songs and public commentaries have consistently challenged what he perceives as imbalances in political appointments and leadership structures across Kaduna State.

Sources further claimed that Dangata had openly criticised certain local government leadership appointments in predominantly Christian communities, arguing that such decisions failed to reflect local demographics and undermined democratic principles.

His activism also reportedly included calls on voters to reject candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as opposition to any future re-election bid by Governor Uba Sani.

While authorities have yet to state the basis for his detention, some supporters alleged that efforts were being made to link him to a criminal case involving a reportedly stolen mobile phone in order to justify his continued detention.

The allegation could not be independently verified, and no formal charges had been announced against the musician as of press time.

The arrest has generated reactions among his supporters, many of whom described the development as an attempt to suppress freedom of expression and political participation.

They argued that citizens should be free to advocate for political causes and express their views without fear of intimidation or arrest.

As public attention continues to focus on the case, observers are awaiting an official response from security authorities regarding the circumstances surrounding Dangata’s arrest and the legal basis for his continued detention.
