The Kano State Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA) has shut down 35 private health facilities across the state for various regulatory violations and non-compliance with statutory standards.
According to PHIMA’s Executive Secretary, Hajiya Khadija Sa’id, the regulatory enforcement covers a wide range of private healthcare providers, including hospitals, clinics, nursing and maternity homes, diagnostic laboratories, dental centers, and alternative medicine practitioners.
The closures were carried out in collaboration with security agencies and an inter-agency task force set up by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to crack down on illegal operations, unlicenced practices, and the unauthorized reopening of previously sealed facilities.
PHIMA emphasized that routine inspections across Kano’s 44 local government areas are being intensified to ensure that healthcare providers maintain valid operational licenses, adhere to professional standards, and employ only qualified personnel to safeguard public health.
