Kidnapped Ex-Major General Abubakar Rabe Dies in Bandits’ Captivity

Retired Major General Abubakar Rabe, who was kidnapped in Katsina State two weeks ago, has died while being held captive by bandits.

 

The sad development was announced on Saturday in a statement issued by the Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu.

 

According to the statement, the Katsina State Government expressed deep sorrow over the death of the retired military officer, describing it as a painful loss to his family, the state and the nation.

 

The government revealed that despite sustained efforts by security agencies and the state government to secure his freedom, the rescue mission unfortunately ended in tragedy.

 

Authorities disclosed that the retired general died from health complications related to diabetes and hypertension while in captivity.

 

The statement noted that his death represents a significant loss, not only to his immediate family and Katsina State, but also to Nigeria, considering his years of service to the country.

 

Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the entire nation. He described the incident as a painful reminder of the security challenges confronting communities and called for greater collaboration in the fight against criminal elements.

 

The governor reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to working closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the abduction are identified and brought to justice.

 

He also assured residents that the administration remains resolute in its determination to combat banditry and safeguard lives and property across the state.

 

The government offered prayers for the repose of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar and strength for his family to bear the loss.
