Peter Obi disassociates himself from leaked audio: Former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Gregory Obi, has defended himself against recent
accusations of stoking insurrection and promoting ethnic and religious conflict. This comes in
response to the release of an alleged call between Mr Obi and Living Faith Church founder, Bishop
David Oyedepo, in which Mr Obi allegedly referred to the election as a religious war.
Peter Obi disassociates himself from leaked audio: the Audio
The audio leak, which was released by the Peoples Gazette, has caused quite a stir among Nigerians
who are concerned about the authenticity of the recording. Many have questioned whether the audio was doctored or manipulated in any way, given that the call was allegedly made on the eve of the election,
which was held the following day. It is believed that by the time the message would have been passed on,
the election would have already been over.
the Reaction
Reacting to the Yes Daddy audio leak released by the Peoples Gazette, Mr Obi has come out to defend
himself with a series of tweets. In a thread on his Twitter handle, Mr Obi stated that he has observed
various campaigns of misrepresentation directed at him in recent days, with the latest accusations
coming from the Nigerian Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed.
According to Mr Obi, Minister Lai accusing him of stoking insurrection is totally malicious and fictitious.
Mr Obi denied ever having any discussion or encouraging anyone to undermine the Nigerian
state, stating that he has also never sponsored or preached any action against the Nigerian state.
Those initiating these actions have increasingly used their official positions and agents to make false
allegations against him which are untrue.
The Peace
Mr Obi maintained that he is always on the record, advocating for peace and issue-based campaigns
and never campaigns based on ethnicity or religion. He empathized that he is always committed to
due process and is presently seeking legal redress through his legal team.
Mr Obi urged those engaged in this demarketing process to stop presenting Nigeria in such a bad light,
and stressed that a new Nigeria is possible. Our future generations deserve a new Nigeria, where they
can live a secure and decent life like their counterparts in other climes.
The alleged call between Mr Obi and Bishop Oyedepo has caused a lot of concern among Nigerians,
who are worried about the possibility of religious and ethnic conflicts in the country. While some have
questioned the authenticity of the audio, Mr Obi has come out to defend himself against the accusations
and stated that he is committed to peace and issue-based campaigns.
